Armenian Parliament condemns genocide of Yazidis in Iraq

Today, the Armenian Parliament has approved the draft statement "On condemnation of the Yazidi genocide on the territory controlled by terrorist groupings in Iraq in 2014", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports with reference to the online broadcast of the meeting on the Armenian Parliament's website.

According to him, the draft statement, initiated by all four parliamentary factions, was supported by 91 MPs, while one MP abstained.

Prior to the voting, Samvel Farmanyan, an MP from the ruling "Republican Party of Armenia" stressed out that it was necessary to condemn not only the genocide of Yazidis, but also of the Christian minority, as well as Muslims.

Samvel Farmanyan treats condemnation of crimes against the Yazidi population of Iraq as selective.

In Iraq, Yazidis were regularly attacked by members of radical groupings, and in July and August 2014, the frequency of such attacks increased significantly. In Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Georgia, people repeatedly hold actions with demands to help the Yazidis of Iraq.
