In Tbilisi, 50 people attend solidarity action with Iraqi Yazidis
The capital of Georgia hosted an action of condemnation of mass persecution and oppression of Yazidis in the Sinjar District in northern Iraq. The event was organized by the NGO "House of Yazidis of Georgia" and was held on August 6 in front of the UN Office in Tbilisi, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The action, which lasted for nearly two hours, was attended by about 50 people. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Agit Mirzoev, a member of the NGO "House of Yazidis of Georgia", that the main purpose of the event was to inform the UN, the international community and Western leaders about the tragedy of the Yazidi people in Iraq. According to Agit Mirzoev, this is the first action of that kind in Georgia. At the same time, actions of solidarity with Iraqi Yazidis are being held in the USA, Germany and other European countries.
Dimitry Pirbari, the Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Yazidis of Georgia, who took part in the solidarity action, has noted that the world media hardly cover what is happening now with Yazidis in Iraq.
The action of solidarity passed peacefully and ended without incidents.
