Armenia hosts solidarity action with Iraqi Yazidis

On August 7, in Yerevan, local Yazidis held an action in front of the building of the Armenian Government with a demand to influence the situation faced by the members of this ethnic group in Iraq.

Aziz Tamoyan, the leader of the Union of Yazidis of Armenia, spoke at the action and demanded that President Serzh Sargsyan drew the attention of international organizations to the situation of Yazidis in Iraq.

"In Northern Iraq they stab Yazidis to death; they've already killed 500 people. They are forced out of their houses; and women, old people, and children are massacred," the "Lragir.am" quotes Aziz Tamoyan as stating at the action.

No official came out of the government building to the rally, at the end of which Yazidis passed a letter to Ovik Abramyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, the "Armenia Today" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 6 a similar solidarity action was held in Georgia, where the participants, about 50 persons, gathered in front of the UN office in Tbilisi.
