In Derbent, photographers make 3D photos of unique cultural monuments
On December 8-11, in Derbent, a team of four photographers is engaged in 3D-digitization of museum exhibits and objects of cultural heritage, which need to be preserved. The project is managed by the "Peri" Foundation, which since 2015 implements the programme "Cultural Heritage 2.0".
In Derbent, photographers started digitization of objects in spring 2016. The international programme is being implemented in partnership with the Madrid "Factum Arte" Company and the "Juma Al-Majid" Foundation from the United Arab Emirates. The experts have already created a 3D-model of objects of Kala-Koreish, one of the oldest Muslim villages in Dagestan.
"Derbent is selected as one of the cities, oldest and richest in terms of the cultural heritage, that are of interest to the scientific community," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Vera Yakovleva, a member of the "Peri" Foundation.
According to her, the programme participants want to make objects of culture and history accessible to researchers and the general public.
The digital archive will be stored at the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography in Makhachkala.
According to historian Sergey Manyshev, results of creation of digital copies of the cultural objects can be evaluated when part of the originals is no longer available.
