Advocates ask Prosecutor's Office to protect rights of Khasavyurt resident, who claims being tortured
In Dagestan, advocates of Djamal Razhitkhanov, a local resident, detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting members of the armed underground, have filed a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office about the pressure on the defendant to waive their services. On October 9, the complaint was addressed to Ramazan Shakhnavazov, Prosecutor of Dagestan.
"During a personal visit, Djamal Razhitkhanov said that he was tortured with electric current, beaten and brutalized... And he is subjected to torture to waive the services of advocates Magomedova and Abdulkadirov," states the complaint, which copy is available to the "Caucasian Knot".
The advocates asked the public prosecutor to conduct an urgent check of the complaint and take actions of prosecutorial response with regard to pressure on Djamal Razhitkhanov to waive advocates' services against his will.
On October 9, the similar appeal was also sent to the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by advocate Sapiyat Magomedova.
"We also demand to subject Djamal Razhitkhanov to an urgent medical examination until his body bears signs of torture. Besides, we demand to identify and bring to justice the persons, who used illegal methods to influence the detainee," Sapiyat Magomedova has reported.
According to her, as on October 9, the advocates under the agreement are not allowed visiting Djamal Razhitkhanov, who is being kept in custody.
