Dagestani authorities condemn Zhirinovsky's utterances on North-Caucasian nations

Today, the department of information policy and the press service of Dagestan have spread a statement condemning the utterances of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the LDPR (Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia) and Vice-Speaker of Russian State Duma, on the situation in the country and about nations of Northern Caucasus.

"Allegations that Caucasians cannot and don't want to work, wouldn't study, 'captured' everything, fail to observe the laws of the Russian Federation are fabrications, which discredit the honour and dignity of the nations living in Northern Caucasus," runs the statement of the department.

"Zhirinovsky's statements about the change of the federal composition of Russia are, in fact, impingements on the basis of its constitutional order; they oppose citizens of our country on the basis of their nationalities, and confront people. This is the way towards a national catastrophe," the "Interfax" quotes the statement.

Mr Zhirinovsky's statements were also criticized by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, while the leaders of the Chechen regional branch of the LDPR resigned and quitted the party, the "Gazeta.Ru" writes.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, in his turn, says that indignation of the heads of Dagestan and Chechnya are "absolutely illogic." He states that he had discussed only the "facts of Russian history and touched neither Dagestan nor Chechnya, nor their leaders and nor their internal problems," the "Echo Moskvy" Radio reports.
