Within a month, Chechnya destroyed over 360 bombs

The engineering-sapper subdivisions of the Internal Troops (ITs) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Russia neutralized, during February this year, 360 different explosive objects and six self-made bombs detected in the territory of Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the military commandant's office of Chechnya that the figures were announced yesterday, on March 11, during the meeting on operational outcomes of the grouping of federal forces in February 2009, held in main Russian military base Khankala near Grozny.

"In total in February, the militaries of the engineering-sapper subdivisions of Russian MIA's ITs liquidated in the territory of Chechnya 360 different explosive objects, six self-made bombs and 318 kilos of explosive matter," said an officer of the commandant's office.

Additionally, according to his story, the said subdivisions detected 20 hideouts and nine bases of militants, and conducted 96 successful special operations, having confiscated 12 firearms, two grenade launchers, 77 grenades thereto and about four thousand cartridges to automatic arms.

The officer has noted that the sappers from the 46th Brigades of Internal Troops conducted in February, under request of the Republic's leadership, a complete demining of the territory of about 17 hectares in the vicinity of Tsentaroy village (clannish village of Ramzan Kadyrov).

Earlier it was reported that during the whole 2008 the IT sappers found and liquidated a total of 9085 explosives found in different Chechen districts. Besides, 93 explosive devices of various power were found and neutralized.

The issue of demining land plots in the territory of the Chechen Republic is still a serious problem.
