Wife of Dagestani Ismail Kurbanov denies his trip to war in Syria

The wife of one of the Kurbanov brothers, accused of links with militants, has explained how she lived with him in Egypt and Dagestan. The woman is sure that her husband could not go to Syria to participate in the warfare there.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, the father of Ismail and Mukhtar Kurbanov told that his sons had been kidnapped by law enforcers. According to the prosecutor, Mukhtar Kurbanov confessed to taking part in the Syrian conflict on militants' side, but the advocate has doubted the veracity of the protocols.

According to investigators, the Kurbanovs entered an illegal armed formation (IAF), stored explosives, and the youngest of them, Mukhtar, fought for the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, in Syria from December 2014 until the end of 2016. At the trial, the Kurbanovs said that they had been tortured after detention, and they incriminated themselves because of threats.

An acquaintance of the Kurbanov brothers told that they had led a peaceful life in Egypt and never went to Syria to participate in the hostilities.

"From September 4 to September 15, 2015, Ismail travelled to Cairo for goods; and in October he also was in Cairo for his trade business," said Ismail Kurbanov's wife. The defendant himself had stated earlier that he was engaged in selling oriental perfumes, creams and oils.
