After complaints about torture, court transfers Dagestani resident under house arrest

The Untsukul District Court has changed the freedom restraint measure of Umargadji Abdurakhmanov to house arrest, his advocate Eldar Temirkhanov has reported. Abdurakhmanov is suspected of aiding militants.

He was detained by masked law enforcers on February 6; and on February 9, the court arrested him for two months. He complained about torture with electric shock and pressure by law enforcers.

Let us note here that on February 13, Madinat Abdurakhmanova, Umargadji's wife was received by the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office. She and her relatives demanded a meeting with the Republic's Public Prosecutor Denis Popov.

"The Prosecutor listened to me and promised to take action," the "Chernovik" weekly quotes her as saying.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported about Dagestan residents' complaints about torture and law enforcers' pressure. Thus, Bagir Makhmudov, accused of illegal storage of firearms and ammunition, said on February 16 that he had been forced to confess.
