In IS cell case, defendants complain of torture

In the case on creation of a cell for the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia, in the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR), five defendants have complained of torture to the North-Caucasian District Military Court. Advocate of the defendants requested to prosecutors to check the defendants' complaints.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 20, 2016, the FSB Department for the KChR reported the detention of six republic’s residents, as well as those of Dagestan and the Stavropol Territory on suspicion of involvement in the IS. There was a woman among the detainees.

According to Natalia Belikova, an advocate of Lilit Khozieva, her client filed to the court a complaint of the use of torture with electric current against her.

"During the preliminary investigation, law enforcers used torture and psychological pressure to force my client to sign the protocols she did not read, containing the absurd confessions that Lilit Khozieva was a member of the Jamaal," the advocate said.

Natalia Belikova has explained that Lilit Khozieva could not file a complaint of torture, since she constantly stayed under the control of the law enforcers who tortured her and was afraid of them.

According to the advocate, already five defendants complained to the court of torture used by law enforcers "to knock out confessions."
