32 orphans receive apartments in Grozny

On December 29, the eve of the New Year, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, awarded 32 orphans with keys to new apartments. Local residents report a multi-year waiting list of orphans for housing.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 23, on the Mother's Day, Chechen authorities awarded apartment keys to 40 orphans out of 1627 ones on the waiting list.

According to the Ministry of Labour of Chechnya, in 2017, the budget allocated 90.8 million roubles to buy flats for orphans; 72 apartments were bought.

The Ministry has confirmed 1627 orphans’ names on the waiting list. Since the start of the programme, 884 of them received apartments in Grozny.

Within the year, the orphans’ waiting list has grown by 343 names. Often, orphans, long waiting for their apartments, were deprived of this right, local residents have reported, complaining that it takes orphans years to wait for their due housing.

"My granddaughter was among those who were granted apartments yesterday; she had waited hers for 10 years," said Khava, a resident of Grozny.
