Armenian authorities ignore Nerses Pogosyan's hunger strike

The authorities have ignored the hunger strike of Nerses Pogosyan in the Nubarashen prison. This has been reported by advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nerses Pogosyan was arrested on May 31, 2016. He is accused of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition. According to prosecution, Nerses Pogosyan cooperated with Zhirair Sefilyan, one of the leaders of the movement "100th Anniversary without Regime". The defendant pleads not guilty. At a court hearing held on September 29, Nerses Pogosyan declared indefinite hunger strike in protest against the court's refusal to release him from custody. On October 11, the advocate stated that the Nerses Pogosyan's health state had deteriorated.

On October 13, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Araik Papikyan, an advocate of Nerses Pogosyan, that the authorities and the judicial system had not yet reacted to the hunger strike.

According to the advocate, during two weeks of the Nerses Pogosyan's hunger strike, the defendant was only once visited by staff members of the Ombudsman's Office. They have asked Nerses Pogosyan if he receives medical assistance or not and if there are any obstacles from the prison administration.
