"Kommersant": militants try to assassinate Imam Khamzat Chumakov

Three persons have been detained on suspicion of plotting an assassination attempt on Imam Khamzat Chumakov in Ingushetia. One more suspect managed to escape.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 2, it became known about the detention of two persons who, according to the FSB, planned to blow up the religious figure in Ingushetia.

The suspect were plotting an assassination attempt against preacher Khamzat Chumakov, the "Kommersant" reports with reference to a source from the law enforcement agencies of Ingushetia.

According to the source, the suspects planned to blow up the Imam near the mosque in the Nasyr-Kort village after a Friday prayer. For their purpose, the suspects prepared a Hyundai car packed with a powerful explosive charge.

Imam Chumakov survived the assassination attempt on September 14, 2010. An improvised explosive device (IED) blew up under the Imam's car in Nazran, and as a result, the Imam got his leg amputated. On March 11, 2016, the second attempt on Imam Chumakov was committed in Nazran, where a car by which the Imam was driving by was blown up.
