Makhachkala residents hold action in support of Myanmar Muslims

About 2000 people have marched in Makhachkala in support of the Muslim population of Myanmar.

After a collective prayer, a rally took place in the yard of the Juma mosque.

The situation in Myanmar deteriorated in late August, when clashes broke out of Buddhists against Muslims – members of the Rohinj nation. As a result, more than 400 people perished. At least 18,500 Muslims fled to Bangladesh.

Makhachkala residents have stated that they are "outraged by the absence of reaction from republic’s authorities to Myanmar events." The supporters have also noted that they are "unhappy with the absence of reaction from the Dagestani Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM).”

Meanwhile, the republic’s Muftiate has stated that it" has nothing to do with unsanctioned rallies in Dagestan."
