Chechen woman sentenced for inflicting burns to her stepdaughter left at large

The court has sentenced a woman from Shali to two years of imprisonment in a colony-settlement for injuring her husband's daughter on a thigh with a hot knife because of dislike. However, the execution of the sentence has been delayed.

According to investigators, the incident occurred in November 2016, when the girl's father was not in the house. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent at the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The execution of the sentence has been delayed, since Jamilya E. takes care of two minor children, one- and four-year-old. "The verdict against the woman will come into force when her younger child is 14 years old," explained an investigator.

Residents of Shali have told the "Caucasian Knot" that they consider the verdict to be excessively mild. "I do not understand women who marry a divorced man, knowing that he has a child, and then begin to expel her anger on children. What a monster should she be to burn a child with red-hot objects? She would never do something like that to her own children. She should have been sentenced to at least 10 years of imprisonment," believes local resident Larisa.

"For some reason, the sentence against that woman turned out to be very mild. I believe the fact that she has two minor children should have been treated not as mitigating, but, on the contrary, an aggravating circumstance. How would she behave if someone did anything similar to her child?" notes a former advocate who introduced herself as Malika.
