Dmitry Medvedev orders to pay 309.6 million roubles to victims of Beslan terror act

Dmitry Medvedev, the chair of the Russian government, has signed a resolution to allocate money to North Ossetia for completion of the housing arrangement for the victims of the Beslan terror act.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 24, Vyacheslav Bitarov, the leader of North Ossetia, promised to provide apartments to 193 people who suffered as a result of the Beslan terror act and who were recognized as eligible for housing provision.

On July 19, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a resolution to allocate money to North Ossetia from the federal budget to complete the housing arrangement for the victims of the Beslan terror act, the press service of the North-Ossetian leader reported.

"In 2017, for the above purposes, the budgetary funds in the amount of 309,611,000 roubles will be allocated to the Russian Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services from the reserve fund of the Russian government. That will allow providing housing for at least 473 citizens," reports the message posted on the website for the head of the region.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 13, it was announced that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) recognized violation of the rights of relatives of the people killed in the terror act in Beslan. According to the ECtHR, the Russian   Federation did not take all necessary measures to investigate the circumstances of the terror act and the assault, during which hostages died. 409 complainants were awarded by the ECtHR the compensation amounting to 2,955,000 euros, and additional 88,000 euros were awarded to recover court costs. The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and Dmitry Peskov, the Vladimir Putin's press secretary, announced that the government would seek the cancellation of the ECtHR's decision. Meanwhile, the victims found the compensation awarded by the ECtHR as symbolic. According to the victims, the compensation would not be noticeable for the state.
