Leader of "Voice of Beslan" granted MHG award for courage in struggle for human rights

Today, Ella Kesaeva, a human rights defender from North Ossetia, the leader of the public organization "Voice of Beslan", has been granted the annual award of the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG).

According to the leader of the ceremony, Ella Kesaeva was awarded for the courage shown in the protection of human rights, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.

Starting from 2016, the announcement of laureates of the award and the ceremony of their awarding are timed to May 12, the date of the creation in 1976 of the Public Group for the Promotion of the Implementation of the Helsinki Accords in the USSR, the Moscow Helsinki Group, reports the MHG's website.

Ella Kesaeva is the chair of the "Voice of Beslan", engaged in the protection of the rights of the victims who were taken hostage in the seizure of the school of the North Ossetian city of Beslan in September 2004. A daughter of Ella Kesaeva was among the hostages during the terror act: the girl was injured, but survived.
