Defence states attempt to deprive Gasanguseinov parents of rehabilitation right

Investigators try to deprive the parents of the slain Gasanguseinov brothers of the right to rehabilitation of their sons, said the lawyers of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”. The establishment of a human rights organization named after Gasanguseinov brothers was announced to help those who suffered from power agents’ lawlessness.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 23, 2016, Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov, the brothers from the village of Goor-Khindakh, were killed in the Shamil District. Power agents claim that the brothers had opened fire on them, and had been involved in the armed underground. However, the brothers' fellow villagers insist that the casualties had nothing to do with militants; they were just shepherds.

Today, the office of the Dagestani branch of the HRC "Memorial" hosted a press conference on the case of the slain Gasaguseinov brothers.

Djabulat Gasanov, a member of the initiative group set up to clarify the circumstances of the brothers’ murder, said that the previous advocate "had been running the case for more than six months, but failed to achieve any results."

Mr Gasanov has stressed that since February "the interests of the family are represented by the HRC ‘Memorial’ and its advocates Shamil Magomedov, Murad Magomedov and Israfil Gadadov." However, investigators "have not allowed them to enter the case yet," said Gasanov, adding the refusal for the HRC and its advocates to enter the case would be appealed against.
