During 1.5 months, militants eight times clash with law enforcers in Chechnya

In the period from December 17, 2016, to January 30, 2017, Chechnya registered at least 8 armed incidents, including militants' attacks on law enforcers and special operations. As a result of those incidents, 26 people were killed, and seven others were wounded.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of January 30, 2017, policemen were attacked in Shali. An armed incident occurred after policemen tried to stop suspicious persons. In the course of the armed clash, two policemen and three assailants were killed, and two civilians were injured.

At night of January 25, 2017, during interrogation at the ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Leninsky District of Grozny, a resident of the Chechen Republic, suspected of involvement in the armed underground, pretended to lose consciousness. Then he suddenly seized a service weapon of one of the policemen and opened fire. As a result, four law enforcers were wounded. The man was killed in the shootout, report sources in the republic. Meanwhile, the press service of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) denied the information about the incident.

On January 11, 2017, an armed clash occurred in the village of Tsotsi-Yurt of the Kurchaloi District, in which four suspected militants and two soldiers of the National Guard were killed.

In the evening of December 17, 2016, in the Oktyabrsky District of Grozny, a group of armed people attacked two policemen and killed them. In Grozny, an inspector of the road-and-patrol police (known as DPS) was hospitalized after he was hit when he tried to stop a car with attackers. During the resulting armed clash, four attackers were killed, and two others were wounded and detained.

On December 18, 2016, a body of a staff member of the Staropromyslovsky OVD (Interior Division) was found in the village of Katayama of the Zavodskoy District of Grozny. According to the law enforcement authorities, the policeman was killed by members of one of the militant groupings, which on the other days attacked policemen. In the afternoon of the same day, in the course of an armed clash in Grozny, three militants were killed, two others were detained, and one of them was wounded. Later, it became known that on December 18, one of law enforcers died from an injury got during the special operation.

Besides, according to a source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent from the Chechen Ministry for Public Health, three of the people detained in December 2016 in Grozny were killed at hospital after hospitalization. On December 31, 2016, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov denied the above information. However, no photographic or video evidence that the detainees are alive have been presented. On January 13, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" stated that a reliable source confirmed the information that Madina Shakhbieva, an alleged member of a grouping of militants, who was wounded during the special operation in Grozny, was taken out of the hospital, killed and buried without funeral rites.

It should be noted that, according to the calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other public sources, in total, in 2016, in Chechnya, at least 43 people fell victims to the armed conflict. Of them, at least 27 were killed, and 16 others were injured. Their number includes six killed and 12 wounded law enforcers, 20 killed and two wounded suspected militants, and one killed and two wounded civilians. According to the law enforcement authorities of Chechnya, in 2016, in the territory of the republic, 17 members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) were killed, and 19 others were detained. In 2015, inChechnya, at least 30 people fell victim to the armed conflict ongoing in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 14 were killed and 16 others were injured.
