Court upholds verdict of guilty for Imam Magomednabi Magomedov
The judicial board on case involving soldiers and officers under the Russian Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the appeal filed against the verdict to Imam Magomednabi Magomedov. This was reported by advocate Dagir Khasavov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, 2016, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Magomednabi Magomedov, Imam of the "Eastern" mosque of Khasavyurt, to five years of imprisonment for incitement to terrorism, which investigators detected in his sermons on peaceful ways to protect the rights of Salafis.
The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has recognized Magomednabi Magomedov a political prisoner. The human rights defenders have called on the Dagestani authorities to prevent fabrication of a criminal case against the Imam, who publicly spoke out against violence and against leave of young Muslims for the armed underground.
"The only progress we managed to achieve is the fact that the Court reduced the sentence for four months. Meanwhile, we asked for complete acquittal," said advocate Dagir Khasavov.
