Prosecutor demands to sentence Safaryan to 2.5 years in prison

The official from the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has asked the court to find Gevorg Safaryan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament", guilty of using violence against a policeman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Safaryan was charged with hitting the policeman during the clashes of members of the "Constituent Parliament" with the police at night on January 1, 2016. The defendant stated that he had tried to stop the beating up of activists by policemen.

Today, the Yerevan court of the districts of Kentron and Nork-Marash has stated the stage of parties' debates at the trial of Safaryan. The state prosecutor Vache Dolmazyan asked the court to sentence the activist to 2.5 years of imprisonment.

The next court session is scheduled for December 27, and will give the floor to Tigran Airapetyan, an advocate of Safaryan.

Earlier, the advocates treated the policemen's testimonies as contradictory; and witnesses stated Gevorg Safaryan's innocence.
