Activists announce fundraising for school children of Chechen village of Nokhchi-Keloi
In Chechnya, school children of the school in the village of Nokhchi-Keloi of the Shatoi District need warm clothing and textbooks. Besides, the school itself also needs a minivan to pick up children from distant villages. This was reported by the non-profit organization (NPO) "Women for Development". The NPO ahs announced fundraising to help the school children.
On December 2, the fundraising was launched at international charity crowd-funding site of GlobalGiving. The project is managed by Luiza Mazaeva, a member of the NPO "Women for Development". (An update of the "Caucasian Knot" as at 3:35 p.m. of December 6, 2016: at present, the project is closed.)
According to the description of the project, the NPO plans to raise 15,000 US dollars. Meanwhile, by present, the activists have raised only 20 US dollars.
In 2002, during the combat actions, the school in the village of Nokhchi-Keloi was completely destroyed, and many families left the village, since it has no school for children, reports the December bulletin "Women for Development". At present, according to the NPO, 570 families live in the village of Nokhchi-Keloi.
"The access to the village is difficult, and it is very poor. Houses are situated on slopes of the mountains, far enough away from each other. It takes a lot of time from the children to get to school, since they have to walk two or three kilometres," explained Libkan Bazaeva, the director of the NPO.
In 2008, Libkan Bazaeva spent a cash reward got by her for her activities in the field of human rights protection to build a school in the village of Nokhchi-Keloi.
