Imam Magomedov released from dungeon before term
The Salafi Imam Magomednabi Magomedov was held for four days in dungeon (punishment cell) of the Rostov SIZO (pre-trial prison), after which he was transferred before term to the special unit, said his advocate, who treats this fact as a confirmation of the unfair punishment.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Magomednabi Magomedov, the Imam of the "Eastern" mosque of the city of Khasavyurt, to five years in prison for his alleged incitement to terrorism, which investigators had found in his sermons about peaceful ways to protect Salafis' rights. Magomedov was announced to be a political prisoner by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
On November 15, Magomedov was placed into the dungeon of the above SIZO in Rostov-on-Don. He confessed to his advocate that he did not understand the reason for his punishment; as he was "simply asked to leave the cell and told that he would be put into the dungeon."
The fact that Magomedov's punishment was commuted was reported today by the user Sergey Nadtoka in his comment on the "Caucasian Knot". The information was confirmed by Dagir Khasavov, the Imam's advocate.
Khasavov is still confident that Magomedov had been unfairly and illegally placed into the dungeon, since there were no prerequisites for punishment.
The advocate believes that his client could be punished simply because he is serving his sentence under a "terrorist article".
