In Stepanakert, residents of apartment building ask for help after storm

The storm which hit Stepanakert on August 1 damaged the roof of an apartment building in Saroyan Street. 10 apartments were damaged. The apartment house needs a major overhaul for a long time already; however, the appeals to the authorities remain unanswered. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by local residents.

"Our apartment was completely flooded during heavy rain with hail. The roof of our building needs repair for a long time... Every time when it is raining, our apartment is flooded. However, on August 1, the storm was so strong that we had not enough bowls and buckets to put under the flows of water from the ceiling to prevent the water leakage to the lower floors," says Samvel Grigoryan, a veteran of the Karabakh war, the father of two children, whose apartment is on the fifth floor.

Samvel Grigoryan has also added that for several days, they will have to abandon the use of electricity, since all the wires in the apartment are wet and it is necessary to wait until they are dry.

According to Anait Tovmasyan, a building manager, all the 10 apartments, located on the fifth floor, were more or less affected by the storm with hail which occurred on August 1. The wind also partially tore out the roof of the building.

"The authorities have been promising to repair the roof for more than four years already. However, we are still waiting... We hope that this time they will listen to us and take appropriate measures," Anait Tovmasyan said.
