Azerbaijan: Teleshli villagers complain of low-quality housing, built for them after the flood

Many houses in the village of Teleshli, located in the Imishli District of Azerbaijan, which was built late last year for the residents of the village, who suffered from the devastating floods of the Kura River, are already in the condition unfit for living, said Oktai Gyulalyev, coordinator of the staff of the public society "Kura".

In total, 104 individual houses were built in the new settlement. However, according to Mr Gyulalyev, who spoke to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, less than a year after, certain "post-construction problems" have appeared in the houses.

In particular, as he said, balconies and stair treads have sunk down. Although the houses are one-story ones; however, to avoid further floods, they were built some 5-10 steps above the ground level. However, according to Gyulalyev, the stairs have no railings; and it creates difficulties for elderly persons in climbing up and down, and two persons have already fallen and received traumas.

"Walls of some houses have cracks, their plaster coating drops down. The biggest problem is in the leaking roofs," said Gyulalyev.

However, the authorities of the Imishli District have stated – in response of the "Kura" office about the situation in Teleshli – that the village was built by the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE); and the claims should be forwarded there.

"In late October, we went to the MfE, where we were received by the Deputy Minister Orudjali Gadjiev, who promised to investigate the case and take measures," said Gyulalyev.

According to latest data, machines and builders have been really sent to the village to begin repairs.
