Representatives of the authorities and the opposition in Armenia arranged to meet more frequently

Today, during the third round of negotiation between the delegations from the ruling coalition and oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC), the parties came to an agreement to have more frequent meetings. Instead of meeting once a week they will meet twice.

According to the agreement achieved, their meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays. The next meeting was appointed for August, 9.

David Arutuinayn, Head of the delegation from the ruling coalition, said that the question put by the opposition, i.e. the question of holding extraordinary election, would be discussed at the following meeting. “We arranged that representatives of ANC would present their reasoning and suggestions on the point”, David Arutuinayn said.

Levon Zurabyan, Leader of the delegation from ANC, declared that the authorities’ behaviour strengthened the impression of a simulation type of dialogue. In particular, he expressed his bewilderment about the fact that the authorities did not fulfill the requirement of ANC to broadcast reportages of oppositional meetings at Public Television of Armenia and other TV channels.
According to Levon Zurabyan, the Government went on violating the rights of the citizens, including the right of free relocation, even at the period of the dialogue.

At the same time, he said that this did not mean that ANC rejected negotiation at all. “The opposition cannot yet see any resources of fruitful negotiation”, Levon Zurabyan declared.
