Businessman announced into search on suspicion of funding Dagestani militants was killed in January

Ruslan Atavov, Director of the "Simpeks" Company, who was searched as a terrorists' helper, was shot dead during a special operation in Makhachkala on January 13.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 167.3 million roubles were transferred through the accounts of the Limited Liability Company (LLC) "Simpeks" in support of the armed underground. The Dagestani MIA earlier reported that Ruslan Atavov was on the search list.

Together with Atavov, his wife Ilmukhanum, 33, was killed, who, according to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), in August 2010 left her two young children and went away to join militants. Her previous husband was killed in a drunken brawl in 2005 in a café in Buinaksk. According to law enforcement bodies, Atavova had contacts with the "Buinaksk subversive and terrorist group," the "SKNews.RU" reports.

"Employees of the OBEP (Department to Fight Economic Crimes) have revealed new facts of criminal activity of his company, through which he had cashed out and spent for the needs of the bandit underground more than 160 million roubles," the spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan told the "Interfax".

The press service of the local MIA also told the "Interfax" that the LLC "Simpeks" was not actually engaged in its statutory activities, but concluded formal agreements with various enterprises. Its director Ruslan Atavov cashed the money and transferred it to IAF leaders. He also bought weapons, ammunition, food and clothes for militants.

According to the NAC, back in 2008 Atavov was engaged in cashing large sums of money through one-day companies; and since August 2010 he was on the federal wanted list for illegal arms trafficking. The NAC also informed that during the last search of his apartment firearms, components of self-made explosive devices and pistol silencers were confiscated.

Also, Atavov, a native of Khasavyurt, is suspected of involvement in preparation of the terror act on October 23, 2010, in his hometown. Then, militants planned to blow up the base of the OMSN (special purpose militia) of the MIA, which might have killed around 50 fighters. While preventing that terror act, a militiaman was lost.
