Resident of Dagestan states protraction of inquiry into murder of his pregnant daughter-in-law

The criminal investigation into the execution by militiamen in 2006 of pregnant Sapiyat Magomedova is deliberately protracted by the Investigatory Department of Dagestan. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Mamatkhan Baisultanov, father-in-law of the casualty and a resident of Khasavyurt.

"Today, on my own initiative I visited Rustam Baulov, senior investigator of the first division for investigations of the MIA of Dagestan, who runs the case from December 19, 2010. He said that he needs still another, already the third forensic medical examination: the skull of Sapiyat has a bullet entrance hole; however the bullet was not found; therefore, it is impossible to define the perpetrator of her death. Baulov also said that he would make the same conclusion, if experts conclude that the death resulted from fragmental wounds," said Baisultanov.

He added that Anas Satiraev, commander of the SOBR (Russian prototype of SWAT – Special Weapons Assault Team) of the Kazbek District, who is considered to be the main suspect, had not been questioned yet.

Senior investigator Rustam Baulov refused from comments; other officials of the local MIA said that they knew nothing about the incident.

Let us remind you that the incident happened on November 3, 2006, when a special operation was underway in Khasavyurt. Militiamen surrounded the house, where Mamatkhan Baisultanov's son – Gasan Mamatkhanov – lived together with his pregnant wife Sapiyat Magomedova. As a result, Gasan with severe wounds in his heart was taken to local hospital, and his wife died on the spot. Later, a trial of Gasan Mamatkhanov took place, where the defendant agreed only with the proofs of purchase and storage of arms, from which Magomedova allegedly opened fire. Gasan was sentenced to 18 months in a colony-settlement.
