Freight train blown up in Dagestan

Today, an explosive device went off en route of a freight train in Dagestan, said the spokesman for the Republic's Interior Department for Transports. There are no casualties and victims.

The incident occurred at around 7:20 a.m. Moscow time at the railway section near the station of Shamkhal.

The bomb was triggered under the electric locomotive of a freight train, which consisted of 70-75 cars.

According to a source from the above Department of the Makhachkala Branch of the North-Caucasian Railways, as a result of the explosion two wooden sleepers were damaged, and the locomotive lost its windows. No cars of the train got derailed, the ITAR-TASS reports.

The RIA "Dagestan" adds that the train traffic was not disrupted.

This is already the third explosion of a freight train in Dagestan this year. On February 3, at 10:23 p.m., in the Kizlyar District an explosive device went off en route of a freight train. Nobody was hurt; and the train was not derailed. The blast damaged three sleepers and rails and smashed the windows of the locomotive. The explosion caused suspension of six passenger trains and six freight trains.

On January 31, an explosive device went off during the passage of a freight train along the section Timergo-Shamhal-2256 km. Nobody was hurt then, but the railway traffic on the affected section was also stopped.

In February, Dagestan changed the schedule of passenger trains. For security purposes, the time of departure, arrival and being en route in the territory of the republic was corrected in such manner, as to have trains moving during daylight hours only.
