Moscow holds commemoration of Domodedovo casualties

Today, about 2000 persons came to Pushkin Square in Moscow to commemorate those who perished in the terror act in Domodedovo on January 24.

Prior to the action, the place was surrounded by power agents, who drove the participants through metal detectors. Pretty plenty of Russian and foreign journalists came to cover the event; and the English TV companies broadcast live on air, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

At 4:32 p.m. a minute of silence was announced via the loudspeakers, installed behind the statue of Pushkin. Then, the bell stroke 35 times, by the death roll. An improvised memorial was set on the steps of the square bearing the names of all the terror act casualties; candles were lit and flowers were laid down in front of it.

Mourning music was performed through the loudspeakers. No speeches or slogans were pronounced.

The audience comprised mainly youngsters, activists of various youth organizations, and elderly persons. The ceremony was over around 5:30 p.m.

After the rally, journalists asked the participants to make comments. Different opinions were expressed, from appeals "to make order in Northern Caucasus" to harsh statements addressed to the ruling power and law enforcement bodies. In their talk with the correspondent of the "Caucasus Knot", several persons said that after the terror act it would be unfair to blame all North-Caucasian natives, since this was probably what the terrorists wanted.

In the evening on January 26, residents of Beslan also commemorated the casualties. "The most terrible is that it has become a tradition to light these funeral candles in memory of casualties of more and more terror acts committed in Russia. For the second year already candles are lit here, in this platform, not only in memory of Beslan casualties, but also of those who perished in other terror acts," said Liudmila Plieva, head of the Beslan City Administration.

Let us remind you that on January 24 at about 4:25 p.m. a bomb was triggered in the international arrival lounge at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow. The terror act killed 35 persons and wounded many more; 120 of them are still in hospitals. The blast in Domodedovo is the largest terror act (by the count of casualties) ever committed in airports of the world.
