GUVD: brawl in Stavropol Territory had no interethnic context

The mass fight in the village of Stepnoye between Cossacks and natives of the Caucasus burst out against the background of drinking alcohol, rather than on ethnic grounds. This was reported by the spokesman of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) of the Stavropol Territory.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that about 20 persons took part in the brawl in Stepnoye; four persons suffered.

"The participants of the conflict were Russians, Avars, Dargins, Armenians; therefore, there's no grounds to speak about any ethnic context; the incident was an ordinary quarrel," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Berezin, acting head of the militia of public safety of GUVD of the Stavropol Territory.

According to his story, such incidents are not unique in the Territory and stem from poor work with young people in villages; there are no jobs there; and youngsters have nothing to do in their spare time.

Currently, the conflict has expired, and there are no prerequisites for any aggravation of the situation, the "Vesti.Ru" reports.
