Tbilisi International Film Festival opens today

Today, Georgia will start the 11th Tbilisi International Film Festival. In December 6-12, in total about 100 films will be screened, represented by 19 countries, including Poland, Britain, Russia, Germany, Turkey, etc.

The Festival will be opened by the film of the Georgian film director Otar Iosseliani "Shantrapa". and closed by the premiere of the film by Aleko Tsabadze "Rene Goes to Hollywood".

The event comprises the following programmes: International Contest, Forum of the European Cinema, "Made in Germany", French Collection, British Films, Show of Documentaries, Special Show, Georgian Panorama, Horizons, Students' Films, and Project "Farewell to Arms", the "News Georgia" reports.

The jury will evaluate the contest films in two categories: the best film and the best film director. Winners will receive prizes - statuettes "Golden Prometheus" and "Silver Prometheus". Besides, the jury will award one film with the Paradzhanov Prize, inaugurated by the International Fund for Arts and Culture. Also, a special prize will be awarded by the EU Observation Mission.

Within the Festival, well-known cinema figures will hold a free master class for young cinematographers and a number of workshops. The foyer of the movie theatre will house an exhibition of works by Giya Gogitashvili, the "Georgia Online" reports.

  • SC demands from KBSU documents on legality of Khokonov's dismissal

    The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has begun considering the lawsuit lodged by Murat Khokonov, Professor of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU), concerning his illegal dismissal. The SC has demanded from KBSU bosses the documents confirming the legality of professor's dismissal.
