ICPO restricts information about massacre in Kuschevskaya

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed today by Ivan Sengerov, assistant of the head of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) for the region, that currently dissemination of information about the investigation into the massacre in the Kuschevskaya village, Krasnodar Territory, is limited.

"We conducted the investigation in place, in Kuschevskaya. During the first week we gave rather detailed information to media about the inquiry. However, some journalists told a lot of extra things and created some obstacles in our work," said Sengerov.

Meanwhile, residents of the village remain in tension, because of permanent concentration of power agents in the streets.

"On Saturday morning I went to the market in my car, but couldn't get back home," said Alexander Kulikov, a resident of Kuschevskaya. "The centre of the village was blocked. Militiamen said that an investigation experiment was conducted; and I couldn't drive further."

A woman, working in the hotel "Ogonyok" in Lenina Street in Kuschevskaya, shared her impressions about the last weeks of her work. "All the rooms are occupied," she said. "After the massacre, people just rushed here. They say that there were no bus tickets even from the neighbouring regions."

A saleswoman from a grocery store also shared her observations about the recent events. "I think if not for this resonant murder, nobody would ever pay attention to the situation here. And now top officials fly here five times a week; all the time militiamen block streets, capture, search and question somebody. We're sick and tired of it. Kuschevskaya residents don't believe even now that the situation will radically change for the better."
