Azerbaijan amends discipline rules in prisons to ensure inmates' rights

The collegium of the Ministry of Justice has amended the "Rules of Internal Discipline in Correction Establishments" aimed to ensure prisoners' rights.

According to Fikret Mamedov, Minister of Justice, the changes in the "Rules" were made with account of recommendations of the European Prison Rules, European Committee for Prevention of Torture, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Public Committee exercising public control over prisons.

The amendments have to do with ensuring the rights and safety of prisoners; they bring their custody conditions in line with international standards, upgrade the corrective labour, expand the opportunities of meetings and use of incentives, create possibilities for more fruitful pastime for prisoners and address other important issues, the "Trend" reports.

    The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has begun considering the lawsuit lodged by Murat Khokonov, Professor of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU), concerning his illegal dismissal. The SC has demanded from KBSU bosses the documents confirming the legality of professor's dismissal.
