Students with faked education certificates revealed in Grozny

In the course of the check conducted at the Chechen State University, employees of the local prosecutor's office revealed facts of using faked certificates on secondary education by entrants to the University. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from a source in local law enforcement bodies.

According to his story, "it has been established that six present students of the University had used faked school certificates". "The check has revealed that they had never studied at schools, where they received their certificates; moreover, they never passed their exit exams there," said the source.
According to the head of one of local NGOs, the practice of buying secondary education certificates and higher school diplomas has broadly spread in Chechnya in recent years.

"It's no problem here to buy a school certificate or a higher school diploma. Some two-three years ago the cost of the former was some 10-15,000 roubles, and of the latter - some 2-3,000 US dollars," he recollected.

"During two military campaigns the education system in our republic saw a complete decline. For several years children had no opportunities for normal studies, while the teachers actually lost their qualification. The post of a school principal has become a rather profitable and beneficial job," said Sultan, a resident of Grozny, who earlier himself worked in the education system, and added that positions of school principals were also sold: "some three years ago it was enough to pay some 10,000 US dollars."
