Chechnya calls recruits to military service

In Chechnya, 100 recruits became soldiers of the Internal Troops of Russia's MIA. They will serve in the "Sever" (North) special-purpose battalion of the Internal Troops. The republic's military commissariat states that it is the first "true" conscription for the last 20 years.

"Actually, it is the first true call of recruits from our republic to the Armed forces of Russia for the last twenty years. Since 1992, our guys were not recruited to regular service. On occasions, they were contracted to serve at military commandant's offices and other subdivisions, but it was not a call in the full meaning of this word," an employee of the republic's military commissariat said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and expressed hope that the process "will become irreversible."

Residents of Chechnya have a sort of a dual attitude to the call of local young men to the Russian Army. On the one hand, they are not against their children's service, but on the other hand, they are categorically against the service of Chechen recruits outside the republic.
