Chair of local electoral committee kidnapped in Derbent

Murad Muradov, chairman of the precinct electoral commission No. 30 of the Dagestan city of Derbent, was beaten and kidnapped today in the afternoon by unidentified persons. The "Caucasian Knot" was informed about it by Nariman Abdulmutalibov, deputy head of the Suleiman-Stalskiy District of Dagestan.

The GOVD (City Interior Division) of Derbent refused to make any comments.

Mr Abdulmutalibov evaluated the general situation in Derbent before the election of the Mayor appointed on October 11 and used the word "nightmare" in describing what is happening. According to his story, about twenty supporters of the candidate for the post of the Mayor, current head of the Suleiman-Stalskiy District Imam Yaraliev are in hospitals. "His electoral offices were attacked, and people were beaten," said Mr Abdulmutalibov.

Magomed Baachilov, Secretary of the Security Council of Dagestan, who is now in Derbent, refused to comment on the situation, which is now in the city. He motivated his refusal by saying that "Secretary of Security Council does not give comments by telephone to unknown persons."
