Human rights activists connect search of "Memorial" with case of Litvinenko

Human rights activists think that the genuine cause of the search in the St-Petersburg office of "Memorial" is the show of the film "Rebellion. Case of Litvinenko" prohibited in Russia.

The information on the connection of the search in the "Memorial" office with the case of Litvinenko is cited by the "Kommersant" periodical.

The documentary made by Andrei Nekrasov and Olga Konskaya "Rebellion. Case of Litvinenko", first performed at 60th Cannes film festival in 2007, was shown for the first time in Russia on November 20.

The formal pretext for the search in the human rights organization office is to find documents proving the fact of sponsoring by the "Memorial" of the newspaper "Novyi Peterburg" with which the science and information center has nothing to do, runs the "Memorial" human rights center information submitted to the "Caucasian Knot".

The newspaper "Novyi Peterburg" was closed by the court in 2007 after the Rosokhrankultura committee issued two warnings on the inadmissibility of extremist activity.

According to "Utro.ru", Alexei Andreyev, former chief editor of the "Novyi Peterburg", states that the "Memorial" did not finance the newspaper.
