Serbska Kraina and Gagauzia recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia has been recognized by Serbska Kraina, a Serbian ethnic formation in the territory of Croatia, proclaimed as a state in 1991 during the war in Croatia, and Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova.

The recognition documents were signed by Raiko Lezaich, Chairman of Parliament of Serbska Kraina. "Abkhazia and South Ossetia have no historical or ethnic ties with Georgia, same as Kraina with Croatia," this was the justification of the leadership of Serbska Kraina for their decision to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Croatian newspaper "Vecherni List".

The paper reports that the recognition documents in the Serbian and Russian languages will be sent by diplomatic channels to Presidents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

In Gagauzia, the decision to recognize the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia was adopted by the Parliament of the autonomy. The grounds for this decision were in the bilateral negotiations held by the self-proclaimed Gagauzian Republic with Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 1992-1993. 18 out of 34 MPs voted for recognition of independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Regnum Agency reports. The parliamentarians of the Communist Party, ruling in Moldova, have boycotted the voting.
