Anonymous burials in Chechnya can keep remains of 3000 persons

In Chechnya, mass burials can keep remains of more than three thousand persons, both peaceful citizens and Russian servicemen. This assumption was made by Nurdi Nukhazhiev, Ombudsman for the Chechen Republic. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from a source in the Ombudsman's Office in Chechnya:

"According to the information of the Republic's Ministry for Emergencies, announced today by the Ombudsman in his interview to the ITAR-TASS Agency, only in 2000-2001 bodies of 1138 unidentified persons were buried in the territory of the Republic. Naturally, the persons now registered as missing could be among them."

According to certain sources, from the start of the "counterterrorist operation," at least three thousand persons have been registered as disappeared in the territory of the Republic. Some other sources assert that the number is much bigger. Meanwhile, Chechnya so far lacks a special laboratory for making identification of human remains.
