Population of Azerbaijan has reached 8.820 million

The first results of the census conducted in Azerbaijan on April 13-22 have been announced. According to these data, the population of the country has reached 8,820,000 persons.

"Now, we clarify the number of Azerbaijanis living abroad. For example, the census already includes 19 Azerbaijanis living in Malaysia," said Arif Veliev, Chairman of the State Statistics Committee.

Starting from the second half of May, the census inquiry forms will be gathered within a month at the Central Office of the Committee, and then inputted in electronic form into the database. The final report on the census outcomes is expected by mid-2010, as the IAA PA reports.

Azerbaijan holds nationwide census of its population every 10 years. As of April 1 this year the population of the country made 8.753 million persons, as the "Regnum" Agency reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee, there are more women than men in Azerbaijan. Men make 49.3%, and women - 50.7% of the country's population. The average life expectancy is 72.4 years: 69.7 years in men and 75.1 years in women.
