Kapan Combine to resume its work in Armenia

One of the largest enterprises of Armenia - the Kapan Mining and Dressing Combine, which was stopped in mid-February, will gain its full capacity by the end of April. This was announced by Robert Falleta, head of the "Dino Gold Mining" Company, which owns the Combine, after his meeting with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

"The Company is ready to work even at a loss, since we understand our responsibility for the Kapan community," said the Company owner. According to his story, the Combine will still employ some 900-950 workers and escape mass lay-offs.

In mid-November 2008, the top managers of the Kapan Mining and Dressing and Agarak Copper-Molybdenum Combines, located in the Syunik Region, announced mass dismissals and salary cut because of the crisis. The members of the government who arrived on instruction of Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisyan held negotiations with the owners of the Combines and managed to convince them to refrain from radical steps like mass lay-offs of workers.
