In Rostov Region, half of accused of corruption are militiamen

In the Rostov Region, half of the persons accused of corruption crimes are militiamen, the other half falling on employees of the education system, public health, supervising bodies and administrations of different levels. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt the data at the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the Rostov Region.

According to the Department, in total in 2008 for the Rostov Region, 170 corruption-based criminal cases were sent to the courts. Most of the cases are related to bribe-giving (65 criminal cases) or bribe-taking (39 cases), and abuse of one's official powers.

As a whole, for the South Federal District (SFD), in 2008, about 3900 corruption-based crimes were initiated. Most of the crimes were registered in three areas of the District - Rostov Region, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories.
