Militiamen were fired from antitank rocket launcher

On August 13 the PPS (patrol and sentry service) post "Orpheus", located on the administrative border of North Osetia with Ingushetia not far from the village of Kurtag, was fired from an antitank rocket launcher. Two shots were made from the direction of the neighboring republic from a forest belt. Representatives of the Prigorodny Interior Department and the prosecutor's office, a mobile detachment of the Russian Interior Ministry immediately arrived to the place of the incident.

A concrete block that fell of the first shell pressed down Junior Sergeant Shavlokhov. He was hospitalized with a double leg fracture. The PPS house is heavily destroyed.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
