"Doctors Without Borders" and volunteers passed through town wearing T-shots with "Where is Arjan?" inscription

 "Where is Arjan?" - volunteers wearing T-shorts with such an inscription and representatives of the international organization "Doctors Without Borders" passed along the main streets of Makhachkala. This procession was held within the framework of the exhibition that is opened in the Exhibition Hall of the Dagestan Republican Library. The exhibition is timed to the sad date: a year ago, on August 12, 2002, Arjan Erkel was kidnapped. His whereabouts is still unknown.

This exposition gives visitors a chance to better learn international mission's activities in the regions. For 12 years the organization has realized great number of projects, helped peaceful people living in "hot spots". "Doctors Without Borders" provide medical and social help, the aim of which is to ease homeless people's access to medical help and to contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for their resocialization.

Separate stand at the exhibition is devoted to missing Arjan Erkel: biography facts, pictures taken during his work?

The purpose of the exhibition is to address to the Dagestani society and stir up the activity for  the quickest release of Arjan Erkel.

The exhibition will last up to August 26, but the question of Arjan Erkel's whereabouts remains open.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them.
