Krasnodar resident, convicted for fakes about Russian Army, deprived of Russian citizenship

The police has sent to Alexander Somryakov, a Krasnodar resident, sentenced to six years of freedom deprivation for spreading fakes about the Russian Army, a notification about the termination of his Russian citizenship, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a court in Krasnodar had sentenced Alexander Somryakov to six years in penal colony, finding him guilty of spreading false information about the Russian Armed Forces. Last September he was transferred to a colony in the Krasnodar Territory.

On August 7, 2023, the human rights project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" declared Alexander Somryakov, 36, as a political prisoner and demanded his release. Earlier, in the spring of 2022, he expressed his opinion on the actions of Russian militaries in Ukraine in his social network page. The article under which he was convicted "contradicts the Russian Constitution and basic principles of law," human rights defenders then stated.

According to the Telegram channel "Politzek Info", Somryakov's deprivation of citizenship became the first known case when a person convicted of spreading fakes about the Russian Army was deprived of Russian citizenship under the new law dated April 28, 2023 (Federal Law No. 138-FZ "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation", – note of the "Caucasian Knot").
