Court approves refusal of claim against Makhachkala police filed by journalist Idris Yusupov*

The court of appeal upheld the decision of the Makhachkala court, which dismissed a complaint filed by journalist Idris Yusupov* about his detention by the police during protests against mobilization.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause), filed an appeal against the decision of the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala, which did not grant his claim against the Makhachkala Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the former chief of the police department for unjustified detention at the rally. The complaint was received by the Supreme Court of Dagestan.

On July 19, 2023, the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala refused to consider the claim filed by Idris Yusupov* against the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for his unjustified detention in September 2022 during a protest action against mobilization, which the journalist came to cover.

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan upheld the decision pronounced by the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala, Idris Yusupov* reported.

The journalist explains that he and his defence are trying to prove the fact that he was forced to stay at the police station during 17-18 hours without food, drink, or access to phones.

*On November 24, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov in the register of foreign agents. The journalist filed an appeal against the MoJ’s decision.
