Journalist Magomed Magomedov released after his detention at picket in support of Gadjiev

A court found no signs of wrongdoing in the actions of Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft), who was detained at a solo picket in Makhachkala. The journalist has been released.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the police detained Magomed Magomedov, accusing him of violating the regulations for holding a solo picket. An advocate was not allowed to visit Magomed Magomedov at the police department. The district court in Makhachkala banned journalists from attending the hearing, reported Idris Yusupov*, a journalist of the “Novoye Delo” (New Clause).

Magomed Magomedov tried to hold a solo picket in Makhachkala in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, but another picketer joined him, and the police declared a violation of the regulations for holding a solo picket.

Let us remind you that colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his criminal case to be political persecution and regularly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala. On January 8, similar solo picket was held by Magomed Magomedov.

*On November 24, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) included Idris Yusupov into the register of foreign agents. The journalist has filed an appeal against the MoJ’s decision.
