Skorovarova's arrest for discrediting Russian Army challenged

The defence has appealed against the court ruling to place Irina Skorovarova, a resident of the city of Taganrog, under house arrest; she was accused within a criminal case of discrediting the Russian Army. Under house arrest, she cannot buy foodstuffs and medicines for her minor daughter and elderly grandmother, her advocate has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 11, Irina Skorovarova's home was searched within the above case; on the following day, the Taganrog City Court sent her under house arrest for two months. The reason for her criminal prosecution was in the video about a Russian military posted in Skorovarova's page in the Odnoklassniki social network.

The defence has challenged Irina's house arrest, Pavel Solodovnikov, her advocate, has informed.

"The house arrest threatens the life and health of Irina's young daughter and her grandmother. She is raising her 12-year-old daughter alone and caring for her elderly, 83-year-old grandmother who cannot walk; they have no other close relatives. After the court sent her to house arrest without the right to leave their residence, it is unclear how they will be able to buy foodstuffs and medicines," the advocate has explained.

He has added that in February 2023, Skorovarova was fined by 30,000 roubles under the article on discrediting the Russian Army, but was unable to pay the fine due to her difficult financial situation.

"The fine was caused by her post placed in the Odnoklassniki mentioning a missile strike at a residential building in the city of Dnieper," the advocate has stated, adding that the aim of the search of Skorovarova's home was her phone.
