Native of Chechnya convicted in Strasbourg for promoting terrorism

A court in Strasbourg has sentenced a native of Chechnya to 15 months in custody, finding him guilty of promoting terrorism due to his videos and songs of the “Islamic State” (IS)* posted n social networks.

According to investigators, he used to broadcast IS* videos and war songs on the TikTok for several months, including a video glorifying the terror acts committed in Paris and Brussels, the Le Figaro outlet writes.

In court, the 19-year-old young man has admitted that he had placed the relevant videos, but denied his religious radicalization.

In November this year, a court in France sentenced Abdul Khakim Anaev, a native of Chechnya, to 10 years in jail after he was found guilty of inciting Khamzat Azimov to commit a terror act; then, the latter attacked passers-by with a knife in Paris, killing one and stabbing four people.

On October 16, 2023, the French Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced that about 60 people, including natives from Northern Caucasus, would be expelled from France after the attack on a school in the city of Arras. On October 20, media reported the detention of a 15-year-old native of Chechnya who was standing with a knife near a synagogue in Strasbourg.

* On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the organization "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
